鐵藝從制作工藝上一般可以分為鑄鐵和鍛打兩種。

古典型一般采用較為粗厚的原材料，并配以較復(fù)雜的圖案，顏色也大多會(huì)采用仿古色，相對(duì)來(lái)說(shuō)，古典型的鐵藝制品是屬于柔美型的。

而現(xiàn)代型的就較為簡(jiǎn)單了，采用的材料一般會(huì)選擇比較些小的方管，現(xiàn)代型的鐵藝制品主要是體現(xiàn)出精簡(jiǎn)，但也并不缺乏現(xiàn)代美，注意打造出來(lái)的是一種簡(jiǎn)單但不簡(jiǎn)約，時(shí)尚但不奢華的風(fēng)格，更符合現(xiàn)代人的審美格調(diào)。

欄桿通透型，主要做法為以尺寸較大的方管做大門(mén)的框架， 然后使用鐵藝配件直接在框架中拼接鑲嵌。這種通透型的鐵藝大門(mén)的性能更加傾向于美觀(guān)，而且材料使用量比較少，適合做尺寸比較大的門(mén)，比如小區(qū)大門(mén)，別墅花園門(mén)等。
